Horror injury to Conor McGregor. His left ankle or ankle was broken, so the fight could not continue.

Referee Herb Dean stopped the duel and Dustin Poirier was declared the winner via Technical Knockout (TKO). Meanwhile, The Notorious had to undergo surgery and needed at least a year to recover.

The cause of Conor McGregor's broken left ankle was due to a check block by Dustin Poirier. In this duel, McGregor often releases low kicks. Low kick is a kick that targets the thigh or calf from the opponent's front leg, using the foot shell. This move is able to make the opponent's legs slowly numb so they start to wobble. However, the check technique is a powerful defense to anticipate low kicks. A parry that is also done with the feet.

So in the check technique, the fighter will slightly lift the front leg by directing the knee or shin towards the low kick of the opponent. Weight is also transferred to these parts to increase the strength of the block. The balance factor is also the key.

Usually, after checking, the fighter immediately sets foot and from there there is momentum to counterattack with a combination punch.

In addition, the fighter is also able to survive the opponent's low kick by bending his body or also known as the duck technique. Then from there, you can catch your opponent's leg and then continue to knock your opponent down.

If the low kick goes perfectly, then the opponent's leg will look wobbly. On the other hand, if the check block technique runs smoothly, then the opponent's leg shell will experience pain and the worst case will result in a broken ankle due to impact.

"I did a perfect check. When he took a low kick hard and I was able to hold it, that's when the ankle problem," explained Poirier.

"He even had several times to kick with his left foot, but it was powerless. I feel something if it will be like that," he added.

Congrats Poirier.
